Let’s Get Wilde!

| April 28, 2011

So, here’s the situation: the Roundabout Theater is currently staging Oscar Wilde‘s The Importance of Being Earnest. Considering that it is the only Wilde work that I am familiar with (I know! I need to work on that) I have a deep affection for the play. It is goofy, the characters are ridiculous, sometimes callous, but always, somehow, lovable. So it makes sense that someone would have the good sense to find a connection between Wilde’s wonderful work and MTV’s Jersey Shore…?

From Playbill.com:
What if the characters of Broadway’s “The Importance of Being Earnest” traveled through a time warp and woke up on the beach with Snooki, The Situation and the rest of the gang of MTV’s “Jersey Shore”?

All I can say is I watched all five clips and then I watched them again. Hooray to Santino Fontana and David Furr (the lead actors in the play) for coming up with the idea! What do you think? A quick note to parents: there is language in this video not suitable for children.
