The San Francisco Public Library In Its Own Words

| June 7, 2011

Over Memorial Day weekend, I attended a wedding in San Francisco (don’t tell New York, but it might be my favorite city!) Even if you’ve never been there, you’ve probably heard that San Francisco is a place full of character and eclectic charm. I wish I had had time to visit the San Francisco Public Library, but I almost feel as if I’ve been there, having read this delightful picture book by Wendy MacNaughton:

San Francisco Public Library, Main Branch: In Its Own Words

The author really could not done a better job of having captured and conveyed the importance of the library to the exceptionally diverse citizens of San Francisco. Maybe art such as this can help us to defend the value of libraries, in a time where their funding is on the line and their purposes in question. Have a look, and be delighted and moved.
