About the Author:
Kristen C. Wilcox
Kristen C. Wilcox is a visiting assistant professor at the University at Albany, State University of New York. Her areas of research interest are language, culture, and cognition in multicultural contexts. She has investigated the impacts of high stakes tests in diverse educational settings and best practices at the elementary and middle school levels. She has taught English as a second and foreign language at the kindergarten through doctoral levels in the United States and Puerto Rico, and coordinated second and foreign language programs in a Brazilian K-12 international school.
Janet I. Angelis
Janet I. Angelis is associate director of the Albany Institute for Research in Education (AIRE), University at Albany, State University of New York. Her professional career has spanned the worlds of practice and research, and she has spent the past 25 years actively working to connect the two.A former middle school teacher, she understands schools and classrooms and their demands. She is also a seasoned communicator who has been responsible for bringing this understanding to researchers and developers at a regional educational laboratory and a university-based research center — and bringing research results back to practitioners and policymakers.
