Continuing the get to know you series, today we get to learn a bit more about Laura. She’s been a fixture at Gottesman since February 2010, and lives in Columbia student housing with her boyfriend who’s a doctoral student in the Economics program.
Are you a Teachers College student, and, if so, what are you studying?
I’m not a student at TC, but I’m working on my MLIS at the University of Wisconsin (online).
A teacher actually…
What was your first job?
A Pizza Hut in Arden Hills, I applied as a joke but ended up working there for nearly two years.
What has been your worst job?
Pizza Hut. I had to wear polyester (and a hat), people ordering pizza were often mean
to me and I gained 8 pounds.
What has been your best job?
This job has been pretty good.
What do you remember about your first day of school?
I was not too impressed.
A book you strongly recommend? The Game, by Neil Strauss. I like that it’s so surprising. It’s a very well-wrought story and the writing is great though the topic is fluff and/or extremely offensive.
A sport you enjoy playing (or watching)? running!
…Best places to read?
… Favorite authors or books?
I read a lot of memoirs, pop science, books written by journalists and literary fiction, but I’ll read almost anything.
The weirdest thing I’ve ever done for money…. I used to be an Armenian folk dancer, but we only sometimes got paid…
Thanks Laura for sharing your responses! If you would like to make like Proust, you can answer the Proust questionnaire (and also compare your answers to celebrities’ responses) here or watch Hugh Laurie answer the Inside the Actors Studio questionnaire (which were inspired by the Proust questions) here. And, if you would like to know more about Laura, just ask the next time you see her! I myself, will be asking her to show off some dance moves.
